IT Fresher Resume Format (with Free Builder and Sample)

A IT fresher resume has one job: get you shortlisted for developer, support engineer and cloud roles at IT service companies. Recruiters and their ATS software spend seconds on each resume, so the format has to be clean, one page, and full of the words they search for.

This page shows exactly what to put in each section as a Information Technology student, with examples you can use, and a free builder that turns it into a PDF in about 15 minutes.

The best format for a fresher

Use a single-column layout on one page. Put your contact details at the top, then a 2–3 line career objective, education, skills, projects, internships, certifications and achievements. Freshers are judged on projects and skills, so give those the most space.

Write your degree CGPA as '8.2 / 10' and school marks as percentages. If you have no standing arrears, say so in one line: recruiters in Tamil Nadu often ask.

Career objective examples for IT

  • IT graduate skilled in web technologies, databases and cloud basics, seeking a role as a software or support engineer in a growing team.
  • Final-year Information Technology student looking for an entry-level developer position to apply my skills in Python, SQL and JavaScript.
  • Enthusiastic IT fresher with project experience in web apps and cloud deployment, eager to learn and contribute from day one.

Skills to list on a IT resume

Pick 8–15 that you can actually discuss in an interview. Put the strongest first.

  • Java
  • Python
  • C
  • C++
  • SQL
  • Data Structures
  • Algorithms
  • OOP
  • HTML
  • CSS
  • Git
  • GitHub
  • VS Code
  • MySQL
  • Linux

Project ideas and how to describe them

Each project needs a title, the tools you used, and 2–4 bullets that start with an action verb and include a number. For example:

  • College Event Registration Portal: Built a web portal where 600+ students registered for the annual symposium
  • College Event Registration Portal: Designed a MySQL database for events, participants and payments
  • Library Management System: Built a desktop app to issue, return and track 2,000+ books
  • Library Management System: Added fine calculation and overdue reminders

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Two-column or graphic-heavy designs that ATS tools read in the wrong order
  • A long objective that says nothing specific ("seeking a challenging position…")
  • Listing 30 skills, including ones you can't answer interview questions on
  • Project bullets that describe the project but not what you did
  • No numbers anywhere: users, accuracy, marks, time saved
  • A second page full of hobbies and personal details like father's name and date of birth

Questions

FAQ

Should a IT fresher resume be one page?

Yes. Freshers rarely have enough relevant content for two pages, and recruiters prefer one. Our builder shows a one-page meter and suggests the Compact template if you spill over.

Should I add a photo?

Only if the company asks for one. Most ATS tools ignore photos and some read them badly. Our photo option is off by default.

Do I need a declaration at the end?

Some Indian companies still like one, but ATS tools ignore it. Add it if your college or the company asks; the builder has a switch for it.

Is the builder really free?

Yes. Build, edit and download as many PDFs as you like with no watermark. You only sign in if you want to save your resume to your account.
